The Interpratation of Turkish History in Mustafa Necati Sepetçioğlu’s Novels

Abstract

Before becoming an artist, novelist, a historical novelist, Mustafa Necati Sepetçioğlu was a Turkolog who gratuated from the Department of Turkology. He grew up under the influence of such scholars as M. Fuad Köprülü, Ömer Lütfi Barkan and Osman Turan who had studied Turkish history, especially the Turkish history in Anatolia. These scholars had showed that Turkish culture and civilization in Anatolia is a continuation of Central Asian Turkish culture and civilization. Sepetçioğlu has written and discussed these historical realities by the means of the novels, basically, by his historical novels. Specifically, the Kumral Dede character in his novel, Konak, clearly displays this historical connection.
