Abstract
A critical study o f Christopher Marlovve's "Tamburlaine the Great" shovvs that he had based his play on non-historical facts. He seems to knovv very little about İslam and the Turkic people o f Central Asia. Timur belonged to a respectful family and was son of a Bey (Lord), vvho vvas highly respected by his tribe Barlas. Timur vvas neither a shepherd nor an infidel as claimed by Marlovve. He vvas, on the contrary, a fanatic Müslim as compaıed to Beyazid and a strict ruler. Hovvever, he had great respect for scholars, God-loving men and dervishes for vvhom he erected huge buildings that remain intact today in Kazakhistan and Uzbekistan. He never put Beyazid in a cave or ordered hini to eat his vvife's flesh. Zenocrate is also totally an imaginary figüre. It is believed that Europe has a lot to leam about the Turkish history and literatüre if they intend to be more universalized.
