Abstract

As one of the prominent intellectuals of the last century Namık Kemal Bey was not oblivious to the problems of the country he was living in. He held himself responsible for illuminating the society. Among his writings concerning social life and the state, the topic of this study is based on the ones related to international relations. Looking at his articles in the newspapers Hürriyet, Tasvir-i Efkâr, İbret and Hadika our study tries to exhibit the views of great states of that time on the eastern question and the Memleketeyn issue. It is noteworthy to observe that his personal standpoint towards the political problems that the Ottoman Empire was facing, was parallel to the views of the Ottoman intellectuals and the official information sources
