This article is concemed with the question of how a defınition of knovvledge is related to scientifıc knowledge, rationality theories/methodologies of scientifıc activity and the idea of university. The analysis the article provides is to establish how the methodological criteria functioning as normative rules goveming the discovery and justifıcation procedures of scientifıc knowledge also arise as ethical criteria shaping epistemological activity as well as how university should be structured and how its success should be assessed. İt is pointed out that a new epistemological attitude needs to be constructed since the ethical criteria of the presently accepted epistemological attitude have negative bearings on the idea of university.
