Abstract

The poetry of Yahya Akengin is a romantic one. The love of nature, longing, and the themes of evening and night are prevailing in this poetry. The images of water and wind are dominant in Akengin's poems. There is a certain balance between black and white, but at the same time cold colours are more dominant than warm colours. The poet prefers free verse, and he generally uses the quatrains and paragraphs as verse units. He uses half rhyme and full rhyme. He creates melody and rhytm with alliteration, assonance and word repetition. His style is descriptive and expressionist. There are marks of folk poetry in Akengin's poetry.
